Thandai/ Milk flavored with almonds and spices

Back to today’s post, this is a HOLI Speciality. I was planning to do it last year too and start of my 1st post as this but nonetheless here it is today. This is the first time I tried making Thandai, and to my surprise it just turned out perfect. It was a huge hit. Thandai is just milk flavored with a dry fruits and a lot of spices. Try making them now for your HOLI party today.

Lets get started.

RECIPE: Thandai / Milk flavored with almonds and spices

MAKES- 2 Glasses


MAKING TIME: 1 HOUR (includes refrigerating time)


  • Milk: 2 cups
  • Almonds: 10 to 12 (soaked and peeled)
  • Poppy Seeds: 1 Tbsp
  • Melon Seeds: 1 1/2 Tbsp
  • Fennel Seeds: 1 1/2 Tbsp
  • Sugar: 4 to 5 Tbsp
  • Dried Rose Petals-1 tbsp
  • Peppercorns: 8 to 10
  • Green Cardamoms: 6 to 8
  • Saffron- 2 pinches
  • Almond Flakes and Pistachio Flakes- for decoration


To make thandai, your milk should be cold. For that boil your milk with sugar and saffron until you get a desired color and let it refrigerate atleast for an hour so that its completely chilled.

Mix almonds, poppy seeds, melon seeds, fennel seeds, dried rose petals, peppercorns, rose petals, cardamoms and make a smooth powder or paste.

Now add 3 to 4 tbsp of this mixture into the milk. Mix nicely. You can add more sugar or mixture as per your liking. Let it rest for sometime so that the flavors are infused.

Strain the milk into your desired glass. Top it with pistachios and almond flakes and your thandai is ready to be served.
